A gas cutting blowpipe (also known as a cutting torch or blow torch) is a manual handheld tool used in oxy-fuel cutting to cut ferrous metals such as mild steel and low-alloy steels. It works by mixing oxygen with a fuel gas (commonly acetylene or LPG/propane) to create a high-temperature preheat flame, followed by a concentrated stream of pure oxygen that rapidly oxidizes and removes the preheated metal.

• Torch Handle/Shank: The main body of the tool held by the operator, containing valves to control the flow of oxygen and fuel gas.
• Cutting Attachment/Head: The angled portion at the end of the handle where the gas mixing occurs and the tip is fitted. It also features an oxygen "blast" trigger or lever to release the high-pressure cutting oxygen stream.
• Cutting Nozzle/Tip: This is a crucial component that dictates the flame characteristics and cutting capacity. It typically has a central orifice for the cutting oxygen and multiple smaller surrounding holes for the preheat flames. Nozzles are specific to the type of fuel gas used (e.g., ANM for acetylene, PNM for propane).
• Control Valves: Tapered or needle valves on the handle for precise adjustment of the oxygen and fuel gas flows.
• Hose Connections: Inlets for connecting color-coded hoses (typically green/blue for oxygen, red for acetylene, orange for LPG) from the gas regulators. These connections are left-hand threaded for fuel gas and right-hand for oxygen to prevent mis-connection.
